Overall the 2010 vintage in the Collio will be remembered as being cool and rainy. The early stages of the vegetative cycle were late, but by the end of the season it was back in line with the average for the area.
Vegetation developed well in the spring, although there were some attacks of peronospera. The period following flowering and fruit set was characterised by alternating weather patterns. While late July was very hot and dry, the second half of August was cool and wet. This caused a certain degree of imbalance in the vine, resulting in a reduction of the average bunch weight.
Picking began in the first week of September. The white varieties showed good ripeness, but the reds less so, due to the lower than average temperatures and the frequent rain. Sugar levels were down a point over the production as a whole, while in contrast total acidity was up by almost a point.
